The Palliative Care Approach (Basic Level)

As leaders in our field of care, we have been selected to offer training courses in collaboration with the Social Services Institute and City of Glasgow College under the TNM2.0 initiative.

Skillsfuture Singapore will subsidise up to 70% of course fees allowing us to extend our training opportunities further into our community.

Course Overview

This course aims to give learners the essential knowledge, skills and attributes to deliver care using the Palliative Care Approach. This will be achieved through self-directed e-learning, Team based learning and an opportunity to apply their knowledge through on-job-training at The Salvation Army Peacehaven.

Learners will learn about the Palliative Care Approach, the importance of Sensitive communication and how to identify the needs of persons with life limiting illnesses. Learners will be able to better understand the requirements of providing care in the last days of life, and support caregivers through the end-of-life process and Bereavement. Learners also will learn about the Palliative Care approach in Dementia Care.

By the end of the course, learners will be able to:

  1. Explain the Palliative Care Approach
  2. Describe communication techniques for Palliative Care
  3. Identify the individual needs of persons with life limiting illnesses
  4. Explain the Palliative Care approach for persons living with Dementia
  5. Develop an individualized care plan to enhance the quality of life of persons with life limiting illnesses.

Who Should Attend This Training?

Individuals who are in direct contact with persons living with life-limiting illness
Health and Social Care Professionals:

Such as, Nurses, Nursing Aids, Therapists, Therapy Aids/Assistants, Allied Health Professions, Healthcare Attendants, Care Associates, Senior Care Associates, Support Care staff, Social Workers, Social Service Assistants/ Associates, Volunteers, Caregivers, and other staff working in Community Care, Dementia Care and Social Service professions.

Entry Requirements

A pass in N/O/A level English (or equivalent)

OR

Be able to listen, speak, read, and write English at a proficiency level equivalent to the Employability Skills System Workplace Literacy (WPL) Level 4 and be able to use numeracy skills equivalent to the Employability Skills System Workplace Numeracy (WPN) Level 4
Learners who do not meet the entry requirements may still apply and will be considered on a case-to-case basis.

Mode of Delivery

This training will be conducted via Asynchronous e-Learning and face-to-face training in the classroom.

  • e-Learning can be undertaken at the learner’s own pace, but must be completed before the start of classroom training. The e-learning will take approximately 12 hours.
  • The duration of the classroom training will be 8 hours.
  • This course includes 3 days of practicum training which will be undertaken at The Salvation Army Peacehaven. These sessions will allow learners to apply the knowledge and skills they have learnt in a real-life setting.
  • Assessment will be in the form of an oral presentation which will be conducted one week after the last practicum training session.

Certification

Learners who pass the assessment will be awarded with an electronic Certificate of Achievement awarded by Social Service Institute in collaboration with The Salvation Army Peacehaven Jade Circle Acaredemy and City of Glasgow College, UK.

Total Course Fee (GST inclusive): $2883.60

After SSG Funding (GST Inclusive): $865.08
