Dementia: Practising Person-Centered Care (Intermediate Level)
As leaders in our field of care, we have been selected to offer training courses in collaboration with the Social Services Institute and City of Glasgow College under the TNM2.0 initiative.
Skillsfuture Singapore will subsidise up to 70% of course fees allowing us to extend our training opportunities further into our community.
Course Overview
This course aims to give learners a complete set of knowledge, skills, and attributes to practice person-centered care for persons living with Dementia. This will be achieved through self-directed e-learning, team-based learning and an opportunity to apply their knowledge through practicum session at The Salvation Army Peacehaven.
Learners will learn how to undertake screening for Dementia and understand the implications of the type and stage of Dementia on the appropriate provision of care. Learners will demonstrate how they would implement person-centered care through application of the enriched model. They will be guided on how to create individualized care plans, which enhance the well-being of the person living with Dementia and their caregivers, in addition to minimising the impact of any behaviours of concern and enriching their lives.
Learners will also learn how to apply the Palliative Care approach to persons living with Dementia and how to provide the appropriate support and advice to caregivers.
By the end of the course, learners will be able to:
- Describe the different types and stages of Dementia and how they impact provision of care
- Apply Person Centered-Care principles
- Apply non-pharmacological approaches to manage behaviours of concern
- Create person-centered activities to maximise wellbeing and quality of life
- Design, implement and evaluate an individualized Care Plan for persons living with Dementia.
- Describe the Palliative Care approach in Dementia Care
- Recognise the importance of self-care and support for caregivers
Who Should Attend This Training?
Health and Social Care Professionals:
Such as, Social Work Associates, Social Service Assistants, Volunteer Executives, Care staff, Patient Service Associates, Therapy Assistants, and other staff working in Community care, Dementia Care and Social Service professions or individuals who plan to enter into these sectors.

Mode of Delivery
This training will be conducted via Asynchronous e-Learning and face-to-face training in the classroom.
- e-Learning can be undertaken at the learner’s own pace, but must be completed before the start of classroom training. The e-learning will take approximately 24 hours.
- The duration of the classroom training will be 8 hours.
- This course includes 3 days of practicum training which will be undertaken at The Salvation Army Peacehaven. These sessions will allow learners to apply the knowledge and skills they have learnt in a real-life setting.
- Assessment will be in the form of an oral presentation which will be conducted one week after the last practicum training session.
