A Spotlight on Palliative Care Approach

Designed to increase understanding of the approach in individuals working in health and social care

As leaders in our field of care, we have been selected to offer training courses in collaboration with the Social Services Institute and City of Glasgow College under the TNM2.0 initiative.

Skillsfuture Singapore will subsidise up to 70% of course fees allowing us to extend our training opportunities further into our community.

Course Overview

This course aims to give learners an introduction to the Palliative Care Approach. It is designed to increase understanding of the approach in individuals working in health and social care and for the community at large. Learners will develop an understanding of the difficulties faced talking about death and how to provide needs-based care to persons with life-limiting illnesses. They will also be made aware of the resources available for Palliative Care.

By the end of the course, learners will be able to:

  1. Describe the Palliative Care Approach
  2. Recognize the challenges faced when communicating with others about death
  3. Identify the needs of persons with life-limiting illnesses
  4. Explain the resources available for Palliative Care

Who Should Attend This Training?

Anyone with an interest in understanding The Palliative Care Approach including the general public, volunteers and service operators.

Health and Social Care Professionals:
Such as, Social Work Associates, Social Service Assistants, Volunteer Executives, Care staff, patient Service Associates, therapy Assistants and other staff working in Community care, Dementia Care and Social Service professions.

Entry Requirements

A pass in N/O/A level English (or equivalent)

OR

Be able to listen, speak, read, and write English at a proficiency level equivalent to the Employability Skills System Workplace Literacy (WPL) Level 4 and be able to use numeracy skills equivalent to the Employability Skills System Workplace Numeracy (WPN) Level 4

Learners who do not meet the entry requirements may still apply and will be considered on a case-to-case basis.

Mode of Delivery

This training will be conducted via Asynchronous e-Learning and face-to-face training in the classroom.

  • e-Learning can be undertaken at the learner’s own pace, but must be completed before the start of classroom training. The E-learning will take approximately 3.5 hours.
  • The duration of the classroom training will be 4.5 hours (including assessment)
  • A written assessment (open book) will be conducted at the end of the training session. Grading and processing of results will take place after the training has completed. Learners will receive an email notification when their result is available.

Certification

Learners who pass the assessment will be awarded with an electronic Certificate of Achievement awarded by Social Service Institute in collaboration with The Salvation Army Peacehaven Jade Circle Acaredemy and City of Glasgow College, UK.

Total Course Fee (GST inclusive): $702.00

After SSG Funding (GST Inclusive): $210.60
